As a young married couple, we dove headfirst into the thrilling adventure of buying our first home—and in true excited-new-homeowner fashion, we jumped the gun big time. Before the ink was even dry on the paperwork, we spent days transforming two bedrooms with an elaborate, colorful pattern we dreamed up for our future kids, secretly hoping for one boy and one girl to fill them. Each wall demanded hours of careful taping, painting, and touch-ups (not to mention hunting down the perfect complementary shades to match), but looking back, that sweaty, paint-splattered effort was one of the sweetest parts of the whole journey.
